Rubber Waterproof Rings

STANDARD AND CUSTOM WATERPROOF SEALS

Select The Right Seal Profile For Your Environment

Rubber waterproof rings are available for hydraulic cylinders, pump housings, valve bonnets, pipe flanges, automotive lighting, electrical enclosures, and submersible equipment. Material options include NBR, FKM, EPDM, silicone, CR, HNBR, FFKM, and application-specific compounds. Profile options cover X-Rings, V-Rings and custom-molded geometries.

Start with the fluid type, continuous and peak temperature, pressure, and motion (static, reciprocating, or rotary). Then confirm the inside diameter, cross section, groove dimensions, hardness, tolerance, and compliance requirements (IP rating, FDA, WRAS, or RoHS). Color can identify a part, but it does not confirm the rubber compound or waterproof performance.

MATERIAL SELECTION

Choose The Seal Profile Before You Choose The Material

A seal can use the correct compound and still leak when the profile is wrong. Check the motion type, pressure direction, groove geometry, shaft speed, and sealing objective (face seal vs. radial seal vs. axial exclusion) before approving the seal type.

Seal Type Practical Starting Point Confirm Before Release
X-Ring Reciprocating pistons and rods, bi-directional pressure systems, pump housings, valve spools, and applications where O-ring twisting or spiral failure occurs Groove dimensions (X-ring grooves differ from O-ring), dynamic vs. static service, exact pressure peaks, and whether the seal must seal in both directions simultaneously
V-Ring FReciprocating pistons and rods, bi-directional pressure systems, pump housings, valve spools, and applications where O-ring twisting or spiral failure occursuel, hot oil, automotive systems and selected chemical service Shaft diameter and tolerance, maximum surface speed (rpm), counterface roughness and hardness, temperature at the lip contact point, and whether secondary radial seals are required

A published temperature range is only a screening value. Actual service life changes with fluid concentration, pressure, time at temperature, movement, groove design, and compression.

Match The Rubber Waterproof Ring To The Equipment And Failure Risk

Automotive and Transportation Headlamp housings, door seals, wire harness grommets, sunroof drains and battery enclosures. Check temperature cycling, UV exposure, fluid splash resistance, and whether the seal must pass IP6K9K or specific OEM splash tests.
Plumbing and Water Systems Faucet cartridges, valve stems, pump housings, pipe flanges and water-meter seals. Use an NSF/WRAS-approved compound where required and verify compression set resistance under continuous water pressure and chlorine exposure.
Industrial Machinery and Outdoor Enclosures Plumbing, filtration, water treatment and sanitary fittings. Use an oil-free material and verify the required approval scope.Control cabinets, HVAC units, solar inverters, wind-turbine nacelles and construction equipment. Check temperature extremes, dust ingress alongside water, gasket groove design, and whether the seal must accommodate enclosure thermal expansion.
Electrical and Electronics Cable glands, junction boxes, outdoor enclosures, EV charging connectors and sensor housings. Confirm the required IP rating (IP65–IP68), material dielectric properties, and whether potting or gasket integration is needed.
Marine and Submersible Equipment Deep-well pumps, pool pumps, underwater lights, ROV housings and ship deck hardware. Confirm hydrostatic pressure rating, saltwater compatibility, long-term immersion behavior, and whether the seal resists biofouling or electrolysis.
Food, Beverage and Medical Equipment Processing tanks, filling nozzles, sterilization equipment and diagnostic instrument housings. Send the exact food-grade or medical-grade approval required, cleaning chemical compatibility, and whether the seal must withstand steam or autoclave cycles.

Information Needed for Material Review and Quotation

1. Working fluid or chemical name
2. Fluid concentration
3. Continuous and peak temperature
4. Working and test pressure
5. Static, reciprocating or rotary use
6. Inside diameter and cross section
7. Groove drawing or equipment drawing
8. Hardness and tolerance
9. Approval or compliance requirement
10. Order quantity and annual demand
Size Alone Is Not Enough

ID × cross section identifies the basic part. It does not confirm material, hardness, pressure capability, dynamic suitability, or chemical resistance.

For an existing assembly, send the groove dimensions and failure condition. A flattened, swollen, cracked, hardened, cut, or extruded O-ring points to different corrections.

STANDARD AND CUSTOM SUPPLY

Control the Drawing, Compound and Inspection Method

Standard sizes can follow AS568, ISO 3601, metric or inch dimensions. Non-standard O-rings can be developed from a drawing, groove specification or sample. For repeat orders, keep the approved compound, drawing revision, hardness, tolerance, inspection method and packaging label under the same order record.

Automatic inspection equipment for rubber sealing parts
Inspection Based on Project Risk Typical controls include compound confirmation, hardness, ID, OD, cross section, surface condition, flash, packaging and batch consistency. Critical parts may require additional validation agreed before production.

Approval Before Repeat Production Samples should be approved against the drawing and actual operating conditions. A color match or visual comparison cannot replace compound and dimensional confirmation.

Compliance Must Match the Exact Compound

A certificate does not automatically cover every EPDM, silicone or NBR compound. Confirm the certificate holder, compound reference, hardness, color, intended contact condition and validity before placing a regulated order.

FAQ

rubber waterproof ring Ordering Questions

What IP rating can your rubber waterproof rings achieve?

Our rings can be designed for IP65 through IP68 depending on the profile, material hardness, and groove design. IP68-rated seals require precise compression calculations and are validated through sustained submersion testing. We recommend sharing your enclosure drawings so we can confirm the groove fill percentage and compression set requirements.

Which rubber compound is best for long-term water immersion?

EPDM is the standard choice for potable water, steam, and outdoor weathering due to its excellent ozone and aging resistance. FKM (Viton®) is preferred when the seal must also resist oils, fuels, or high temperatures. For critical chemical or semiconductor applications, FFKM provides the broadest fluid compatibility. Always confirm the actual fluid chemistry and temperature range before finalizing the compound.

Can you produce custom sizes or non-standard profiles?

Yes. We manufacture both standard AS568/GB sizes and fully custom-molded waterproof rings based on your groove drawings or sample parts. Custom production requires confirming the inner diameter, cross-section, hardness (Shore A), tolerance class, and annual volume. Typical custom tooling lead time is 2–4 weeks, with sample approval in 7–10 days..

What certifications do your waterproof rings carry?

We offer compounds compliant with RoHS, REACH, FDA 21 CFR 177.2600, NSF/ANSI 61, WRAS, and IATF 16949 (automotive). Certifications are material-specific and lot-traceable. If your project requires a specific approval—such as potable water or food-contact—please specify at the quoting stage so we can allocate the correct compound and provide the conformity documentation.

How do I prevent compression set and leakage over time?

Compression set is driven by temperature, time, and compression percentage. As a rule:

Maintain 15–25% compression at the groove base.

Avoid over-tightening mating surfaces that exceed the seal's design squeeze.

Select a material with low compression set values for your operating temperature (e.g., HNBR or FKM for high-heat applications).

We can run ASTM D395 compression set tests and provide aging data to validate the expected service life before you approve production.

Send the Operating Conditions Before Requesting a Price

Include the fluid, temperature, pressure, motion, O-ring size or drawing, hardness, compliance requirement and order quantity. Clear application data reduces material changes, sample revisions and repeated quotation work.
